Create a spot of shade in your small garden with a homemade beach hut –  a few square feet, budget materials and a little imagination and inspiration from your favourite holiday destination will be all that you need  Take a couple of large branches, a few smaller branches to support the roof ,  some garden rope and fencing material to create a bohemian love shack for two.  Add in a bench or a couple of small stools like the ones shown here and welcome to the beach

Get the look : Fencing (used as roofing) available from B&Q, Stools from Petersham nursery, loveseat from Chessington garden centre.

3. Make room for a tree

Didn’t think your tiny terrace had room for a tree? Think again.   This beautiful olive tree has been planted in a large container topped with a piece of circular aged wood to act as a table.  The olive tree provides shade and privacy on this tiny terrace.  Who’d have thought dining al-fresco under an olive tree was possible in a couple of square metres.

4. Create an outside bar area

Stuck for space inside? Then think outside. Create your very own outside bar to enjoy a sunrise breakfast or a  sun set cocktail. This simple idea can work with any sport theme of  your choice the basic formula will remain the same.  Adding a simple removable canopy means  you can still use the space even when the showers hit!
